"Are you not the Christ?"

One of the thieves hanging on a cross beside Jesus asked Jesus this question. Obviously he had no idea what it means to be the Christ. But what about the other thief hanging on the other side of Jesus. What did he understand. He says very little on the one hand but on the other hand he says so much more than we realise. Out of all the people present at the cross I believe he was the only one who really got it.
